QCOSA HOSTS AWARD CEREMONY HONOURING PARTICIPANTS OF APRIL CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP
On Wednesday, June 4, the outstanding performances of participants in the April Chess Championships were recognised by the Queen’s College Old Students’ Association (QCOSA). The event was called to order at 12:15 hours in the Headmistress’s office by Ms. Henry, before opening remarks were pleasantly delivered by Ms. Donna Lewis-Isles, Headmistress of the College.
The ceremony celebrated the dedication and skill of every competitor, who received a certificate commending their effort and performance. These certificates, presented by Ms. Isles symbolised the school’s appreciation for the commitment shown during the tournament.
Special recognition was given to the top performers, Nicholas Zhang, Alexander Zhang and Kateleya Sam, in the open category. They were awarded first, second, and third places, respectively, each receiving prizes for their exceptional achievements. In addition, Alexander Zhang was honoured as Best Senior in the Open Category, while Nicholas Zhang earned the title of Best Junior in the Open Category. In the female division, Parnita Kishun was awarded Best Senior, and Kateleya Sam was recognised as Best Junior. All prizes were formally presented by Miss Yolander Sammy, adding a sense of pride to the occasion.
Vice President of QCOSA, Mr. Ian Lee Chang, continued the congratulatory spirit by commending the members of the Chess Club for their discipline and perseverance, reaffirming QCOSA’s ongoing support for the club and its initiatives. His words highlighted the association’s commitment to nurturing talent and encouraging students to pursue excellence both on and off the chessboard.
The ceremony concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by the Chess Club President, Sachin Pitamber. He expressed gratitude for QCOSA’s sponsorship and support, as well as the guidance of the teachers who played a vital role in the success of the tournament. His closing remarks reflected the collective appreciation of the club and collaborative spirit that made the championships and the award ceremony a memorable milestone.
